29/04/2014 - Want to help out at EDF Final - Volunteers needed!
Maidstone is the host of this year's EDF Challenge Cup and Plate Final being held on 24th May 2014.
EDF are looking for volunteers to assist with all aspects of arrangements prior to, during and post match - we require support ranging from ticket sales to ensuring the venue is clean and tidy on the day. This will also be an exciting opportunity to watch two exciting matches for free.
We will require few hours of help from volunteers to do the following duties:
- Manage the ticket sales/barrier at the entry to the Stadium, ensuring tickets are sold at the gate, collecting tickets, handing out match programmes, and look after cash securely.
- Help guide players/officials to their changing rooms, look after the welfare of players and supporters on the day by assisting with directions, ensuring changing rooms are secure and tidy, assist with cleaning during changeover of the two finals (preparing changing room clean for the EDF Challenge Cup Teams) and assist with general tidiness of the stadium.
- Assist with the preparation of trophy presentation at end of both matches and assist with other general duties as directed during the day.
In return, EDF will allow volunteers opportunities to watch both Final games, as well as provide hot food refreshment and drinks during the day. We are working to get t-shirt for our volunteers - so they can be recognised during the day by our supporters.
If you are interested in volunteering or helping out on the day, get in touch with us at EDFsecretary@gmail.com or EDFcompetition@googlemail.com, or alternatively, get in touch with us via our Facebook Group or Twitter.

12/04/2014 - England Deaf Football Statement
EDF want to give our their unreserved apologies to our clubs and supporters for the let down in expectation of 3G/5G synthetic turf pitches at our EDF Challenge Cup Semi-Final today. We had been given assurances that the playing surface matched the approval standard set by FA/FIFA, by University of Warwick, which included photos sent to EDF committees. Upon our arrival prior to challenge cup semi-final this was not matched with our expectation, and we have let down our 4 Semi-Finalist clubs.
We will be taking this matter up with head of facilities at the Sports department at University of Warwick.
We accept that these pitches did not match the high conditions expected by our clubs, we thank clubs for their feedbacks, including suggestions to inspect all our semi-final venues prior to confirmation. We current undertake venue inspections for finals, but will now implement our action to include semi-final venues under our inspection regime. We learn from our action and thrive to work harder to provide best facility for our clubs within our competitions.
EDF still stands by their decision to book synthetic turf pitches over grass pitches for the Semi-Final due to the wet weather which was seen over the winter 2013/14 - we knew clubs would be making arrangements to travel in advance, and to ensure the semi-final went ahead, we could be assured the synthetic turf pitches would guarantee our matches go ahead on the day.
I personally was taken aback by the level of abuse and threats received by certain playing members of clubs towards our EDF officials at the end of semi-final matches. This subsequently led to resignation of our treasurer, Derek Rowley, who has worked tireless to keep EDF firmly on the ground and his contribution over the last 11 years as active volunteer is a testimony to EDF strong position today. EDF is now in its 11th year of providing deaf football cup and league matches for the deaf community, and we rely on tireless time and work dedicated by our volunteers.
I strongly condemn these attack on Derek, as well as other abuses attacks on Steven Wynne and myself over the duration of this season - EDF has zero tolerance approach toward our committees and we enforce this at all times. It is sad and heart-wreaking to see these abuses and attacks on members of EDF committees, who devote their time and energy in bringing the best for Deaf Football - only to be let down by certain clubs and individuals.

09/10/2013 EDF General Secretary awarded FA Grassroots Heroes Medal at Buckingham Palace
Our EDF General Secretary was chosen as one of 150 Grassroot Heroes Medal winner at Buckingham Palace on Monday 7th October. The HRH Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, hosted an event as part of FA's 150th Year Anniversary and 150 volunteers out of 400,000 across the country were invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace.
Oliver Eadsforth received his medal from Greg Dyke, Chairman of FA, and HRH Duke of Cambridge, who is the President of FA, and was fortunate enough to witness a piece of history, first ever football match on the lawn of Buckingham after lunch, between one of the game's founding members, Civils Service FC taking on Polytechnic FC. Polytechnic won 2-1 and the match was refereed by Howard Webb.
"It was a fantastic experience for me and my wife" said Oliver, who felt 'honoured' to be recognised by the FA for his contribution to the Grassroots game. "I couldn't believe it when I received the letter from Buckingham Palace inviting me to the event. I could not get my head around to it until the morning of the trip to Buckingham Palace. Receiving the medal and meeting HRH Duke of Cambridge was the highlight of the day for me" said Oliver, who has been involved in with EDF for 10 years and has supported the coaching set up of Kent FA's Centre of Excellence for Disability.
"Opportunities like this doesn't come past you in life often, and this medal is a dedication to all Deaf volunteers, players and family who have contributed to Grassroots football, not just in the past, but for today as well. I hope this will be an inspiration for many Deaf people who want to become involved in with football, and I know there are many dedicated volunteers out there across the Deaf Community, and they should rightly, be recognised as well"

22/03/2013 England Deaf Football Semi-Finals CALLED OFF
We regret to confirm our decision to call off our EDF Challenge Cup and Plate Semi-Finals matches due to take place at Grove Farm Playing Field, Nottingham, tomorrow (Saturday 23rd March). This is due to the extreme cold snow weather which is currently affecting Nottingham, Midlands and the North West. More snow is forecasted for Saturday, and with our teams travelling in from long way, safety is our top priority for clubs and their players. This decision was jointly agreed between EDF, Nottingham FA Referee Officer and Nottingham University Sports Department.
We are working hard to identify a new suitable date for the match - we totally understand that this will have implications on club schedules with their local leagues.

28/03/2012 England Deaf Challenge Cup Semi-Final Results
Four Semi-Fianlist teams battled it out with each other at the EDF Challenge Cup Semi-Finals at Warwick University on Saturday 17th March 2012.
Fulham Deaf FC cruised to a comfortable 8-1 victory over Birmingham Deaf FC, with 5 Fulham players sharing the 8 goals. Birmingham pulled a late goal, but this was not enough to prevent Fulham going through to the Challenge Cup for only 3rd time in 9 years.
Fulham will be joined by Derby Deaf FC who also saw off young Cardiff City Deaf Fc side, winning 7-0. Derby was comfortable after taking lead with 3 quick-fired goals inside the first 15 minutes and Cardiff could not find the target, in their first Semi-Final outing in EDF. Derby is also through to the Final for the first time in their EDF history.
Both matches were watched by a crowd of 40 people on a fair afternoon at Warwick University. EDF are grateful for Warwick University for the use of their excellent and high quality facilities, which also will be used during the summer for Olympics 2012 training camp for International football squads playing at nearby City of Coventry football stadium.
Congratulations to both Fulham and Derby - we will see you in May at Bristol! For more information on the Final at Keynsham Town FC, please click on the 'EDF Final 2012' page.
Bristol Deaf FC have secured their place in the EDF Plate Final, being played at Keynsham Town FC. They will be playing against either Everton Deaf FC or Everton Reserves FC, who are yet to complete their fixture.

28/03/2012 University of Warwick to host the UKs top deaf footballers for Challenge Cup semi-finals
Press Release by Warwick University
(Thursday 15th March 2012)
University of Warwick to host the UKs top deaf footballers for Challenge Cup semi-finals Some of the best deaf footballers in the UK will be pulling on their boots at the University of Warwick on Saturday as they go for glory in the England Deaf Football Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Birmingham take on Fulham in the first semi-final with Cardiff City facing Derby in the second game at the University’s Sport Pavilion for a spot in the Challenge Cup Final, which will be played at Keynsham Town Football Club, Bristol, in May.
Oliver Eadsforth, General Secretary of England Deaf Football, said: “Deaf Football has been going from strength to strength over the past nine years and this weekend’s matches are all set to be an exciting and thrilling affair.”
Hearing aids must be removed for the games so referees in any matches involving deaf teams blow their whistle for a foul at the same time as waving a flag or a piece of bright cloth.
Officials point towards goal-kicks, corners and penalties in the normal way.
University of Warwick’s Deputy Director of Sport James Ellis added: “It is great news that University of Warwick is hosting the EDF Challenge Cup Semi-Finals, both for the University and the players.
“It gives the four teams involved the chance to play on FIFA accredited pitches and use the same facilities as the professional football teams who use the University as a regular training base.”

Foreward by the General SecretaryWelcome to our brand new website. It has been long due aim for us to bring the latest piece of technology to England Deaf Football. It is a great pleasure to be able to produce a piece of a website to keep in touch with our players and fans alike. We have over 300 Deaf Players registered on our EDF system and it is an evident of large and passionate sport we play together as Deaf teams. It is a credit to the Deaf sport community to see EDF going strong each year, with us near end of our 9th Season - we will be celebrating our 10 years anniversary next season!
It is a dedication to our players and supporters from all over the country, including our neighbours, Scotland and Wales, for their support in making this a reality for Deaf Footballers. Our statistics have shown that we have provided over 175 Deaf football matches for our Deaf players, old and young, since 2003. This is an amazing achievement and this has also encouraged many Deaf people to take up the game, regardless of their strength, mentality, skills and ability. I am in debt to my hard working committees who have worked hard to keep the EDF ethos going, working to ensure all competitions runs smoothly and having the ability to organise our competition structure in order to provide the opportunities for our Deaf footballers. Steven Wynne, Jason Taylor and our treasurer, Derek Rowley have all worked tiredness to allow us to upper our standard year after year. Please do enjoy your visit on our website, and bear with us as we continue to develop the website over the next few months. We will also work on bringing you some videos in Sign Language.
